Owner Groom Elite I Workshop
(Basic 099 & Groom Elite 101)

CLASS INFORMATION: This intensive workshop is limited to 10 to facilitate classroom discussion, hands on practice and opportunties to discuss topics of specific interest. Material covered will be materials covered in Basic Grooming 099 and Groom Elite 101. with particular emphasis on Horse Behavior & Handlihg;; Digestive System and Feeding; Health Parametrs & Monitoring; Bandaging and Tacking with Exercise Tack. Class will meet for 3 hours on Thursday evening (6:00 PM to 9:00 PM)  with primary discussion on terminology, history of horse behavior and "herd leader" concept of grooming. Friday and Saturday classes will be at a racing or training facility from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM and Sunday morning from 7:30 to Noon. Those signing up will be emailed instructions regarding hotels, first night class location, parking, etc.  (See more details below)  

TUITION: $399 to $599 depending on venue.  Early Bird Discounts available
(Special $25 discount for members of TOBA or KEEP or a respective breed association such as AQHA or state affiliate. )

Includes snacks, soft drinks and water for break times. We will take short breaks and adjourn by 2:00 in time for participants to enjoy lunch and the area surrounding each venue.  Also included will be your personal Groom Elite 3-ring binder plus a jump drive and DvD with narrated Power Point shows that complement the course book. Participants will be given private access to online practice tests and video
Class size limited to 10 so all  have  a chance to participate and ask questions.

 

Program Outline

This program will cover materials taught to grooms in Basic Grooming 099 & Groom Elite 101 with additional information for owners to help with decision making and discussions with trainers, agents and others. 

Session I  Thursday  6 to 9 PM

Horse Behavior and Grooming. This is a major foundation of Dr. Mac's Groom Elite philosophy of working with horses. How does a horse percieves its surroundings? Does being a herd leader matter to a horse? Does the way a horse is handled enable that horse to become more confident?  Do confident horses make better performers? 

Session II Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM - Conformation, body parts & conformation analysis. Height, weight & body condition score; Horse Health check; Lower leg anatomy, leg exam, bandages & bandaging.

Session III Saturday, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM -  Horse's foot. Horse's mouth and digestive system.  Hay (and forages) & principles of feeding performance horses. Bandging practice

Session IV Sunday, 7:30 AM to Noon. Exercise Tack & tacking. Open discussion & future classes.
